Pierre Laclede Honors College
Birgit Noll was raised in a farm village near the former border between East and West Germany. After completing her undergraduate degree at Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität in Frankfurt, she studied in Tours, France, Manchester, England, and at Washington University in St. Louis. She is writing a book-length study with the working title, Shipwrecked By the Germans? Herman Melville and the German Roman.
Birgit coordinates the Independent Study/Internship program and teaches Comparative Literature courses for Pierre Laclede Honors College. In her choice of class material, she likes to work with texts that cross national borders; in class meetings she offers her students plenty of opportunity for discussion and enjoys exploring the readings with them.
