Pierre Laclede Honors College

Dan Gerth

No PhotoAfter receiving his BA in English and History from St. Louis University, Dan taught high school in St. Louis and then Kansas City. He later earned his MA in Literature from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he was a recipient of the Gus Reid Award for outstanding teaching by a graduate student. He considers himself a professional college teacher and has also taught as an adjunct at Mizzou, East Central College, and Southwestern Illinois College. He considers the time he has spent here at the Pierre Laclede Honors College - teaching composition, film, and literature - as the most enjoyable of his career. While not teaching, he tries and nobly fails at many pursuits, such as cooking, fishing, and not watching television. He is currently reading Elaine Showalter's Teaching Literature and highly recommends it.
