To apply: Fill out application form and submit a typed statement on why you think you should be awarded the scholarship(s). Please keep your statement under 2 pages, and be sure to include any community work, volunteer, relevant employment experience, major, career plans. Priority Deadline: statements are due March 1st, 2007.

Chancellors Council Scholarship
History: This fund was established in 1992 by the Chancellor’s Council under the leadership of Chancellor Blanche M. Touhill. Over time the Chancellor’s Councils and
individual members of the Council have contributed to this fund
Number of awardees: Varies.
Criteria for decision: Students who have shown academic leadership and demonstrate financial need on the FAFSA.
Amount of Award: $ 1000/year. Scholarship is renewable.
May Company Honors Scholars Endowed Scholarship Fund
History: This is our largest endowed fund and was first established by the May Company Foundation in 1993. The Foundation wanted to encourage the development of an economically and socially diverse student body and to support students who were residents of the City of St. Louis.
Number of awardees: Varies.
Criteria for decision: Honors College students or new students accepted into the honors college with academic promise and financial need. Applicants must meet at least one of the following two criteria: minority status and/or residence in the city of St. Louis. Intended primarily for new freshmen.
Amount of award: $2,000/year. Scholarship is renewable. This scholarship may impact your Honors College scholarship - total Honors College merit scholarship money will not exceed $3,000.
Harriett Woods Scholarship
History: This fund was established by a generous gift from the Honorable Harriett Woods, the first woman to be elected Lt. Governor of Missouri. Ms. Woods has since added to the capital, income from which is used to support women students who demonstrate academic promise and leadership potential.
Number of awardees: varies according to fund income, but always at least one.
Criteria for decision: Honors college female student, following the Honors curriculum and in good standing. The College and Ms. Woods consider applicants’ academic records. In addition, each applicant must supply a biographical statement detailing her leadership experience and ambitions.
Amount of award: Varies but possibly up to $1,500/year–possible chance to renew, but the scholarship is competitive each year.
Peter W. and Helen M. Goode Scholarship
History: Established by Missouri State Senator Wayne Goode and his family in honor of Senator Goode’s parents. This generous fund – the college’s second largest – is meant to assist the college in attracting highly qualified and diverse applicants from Missouri high schools.
Number of awardees: Varies. The intention is to support four students each year. Intended primarily for new freshmen.
Criteria for decision: Academic achievement and potential, Missouri residence, and financial need. The awardees should reflect the diversity of the St. Louis region in terms of ethnicity and gender. At least 50% of holders should be female students.
Amount of award: $1000/year, scholarship is renewable.
Sandra and Virgil Van Trease Reach for Excellence Scholarship in Business Administration Scholarship (scholarship is not open this year)
History: This endowed scholarship was given by Sandra Van Trease (a graduate of the College of Business Administration) and her husband to support a business major who shows academic promise and financial need.
Number of awardees: 1
Stipulations: This scholarship is awarded by the Honors College on the nomination of the College of Business Administration. Interested applicants should contact the College of Business Administration at 314-516-5883 or visit the College of Business Administration homepage.
Criteria for decision: Intended for new students who meet the following requirements.
- Full time enrollment – 12 hour minimum
- FAFSA requirement (income less than or equal to $40k) = Need based.
- Honors college student pursuing a degree through the College of Business Admin.
- Candidates must possess and maintain minimum GPA required of the PLHC-3.2.
Amount of award: $1500yr- Award will be divided evenly between fall and winter semesters and will be renewable so long as candidate continues to meet the listed criteria and maintains fulltime enrollment at UMSL.
Erwin & Adeline Branahl Scholarship in Honors and Engineering.
Number of awardees: 2
Criteria for decision: Must be an Honors College student who is following the Honors and Engineering curriculum. Preference is to given to new freshmen applicants. The Branahl awards are diversity awards: women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.
Amount of award: $1500/year. The Branahl scholarship is for one year. Holders who remain in good standing in the Honors and Engineering program may reapply for the Branahl Scholarship and/or for other Engineering program support.
Engineering Alumni Scholarship
Number of awardees: 1
Criteria for decision: Honors college student, following the engineering Honors curriculum and be in good standing.
Amount of award: $1000/year, not renewable.
