Louis Gerteis is a Professor of History and the author of three books and numerous articles. His most recent publications are Civil War St. Louis (University of Kansas press, 2001) and "'An Outrage on Humanity': Martial Law and Military Prisons in St. Louis During the Civil War," Missouri Historical Review (july 2002), 302-22. Gerteis is also the director of the Virtual City Project, a website that contains three dminsional, interactive models of St. Louis for each decade from 1850 to 1950.
