Art Speaks Museum Assignment
"Poetry, Painting & Music,
the three Powers in Man of
conversing with Paradise, which the flood did not Sweep away.
- William Blake
American Studies/1818: Field Trip
Directions: Choose an object from the permanent collection
at the Museum. They can be identified on the label by an accession
number (example: 125:1946). Be sure to copy all identifying information
from the label, including the accession number. Write a poem
or prose piece with this work as your inspiration.
Poetry and Prose: Prose makes it to the end of the
line and poetry doesn't. Prose looks like paragraphs and quite
often means essays or short fiction. This could be a short persuasive
essay or just a reflection. The style, especially for poetry,
may be free form. I would suggest writing down images and notes
for composing later.
Focus on setting, action, characters, color, imagery,
theme, etc
Due Date: First Draft is due Monday, May 1 Final draft
will be due Thursday, May 4. (This grade will go on the fourth
quarter.)
Realistically, I expect you to write a draft every night this
week. .
We will send the best effort into local poetry contests.
