To wake or not to wake, and stay in bed

  To sleep. Essays are due; my class awaits.

  But learning can’t occur in my sore head:

  My night was spent out late in bars with dates.

Learnéd models to which I do aspire

  Would urge me to awake from my repose,

  But Morpheus and Hypnos doth conspire;

  A slothful need demands a lengthy doze.

I honored Dionysius Saturday;

  To further satisfy the god’s desire

  For twenty-four more hours we had to play;

  Now, not to be awoken, we retire.

Although my work will not be done in time

I fall asleep and leave you with this rhyme.

And yet I dream: Orpheus with a Triton
Bids me to seek Bellerive's Helicon.

Before the party it was class or bust,

After, Hypnos gave me plenty of dust.

To bed back to my dreams I do now go

My teacher will mark me as a 'no show'

I sleep. For futile fights are norm for those

I call my Fools, so fret I’ve not or woes.

Once more the sly gods were able to outsmart me:

If only I had steered clear of “Booty Party.”
