Sally Barr Ebest is a Professor of English, TA Coordinator for the Center for Teaching & Learning, and Director of the Gender Studies Program. Her teaching and research reflect these various positions. She offers courses in writing theory and pedagogy, teaching as a feminist, and Irish and Irish American women; she also teaches workshops for the Certificate in University Teaching. Her publications include Writing From A to Z (McGraw-Hill), Writing With: Collaborative Teaching, Learning, and Research (SUNY Press), Changing the Way We Teach (SIU Press), Reconciling Catholicism and Feminism (Notre Dame), and Too Smart to be Sentimental: The Writing of Contemporary Irish American Women (Notre Dame). Her most recent manuscript, The Banshees: Irish American Women Writers vs. the War on Feminism, is currently under review.

Dr. Nigro' s research interests are gender and nature writing and St. Louis women writers. She teaches Women, Gender, and Culture, Feminism and Witchcraft, Women and Nature Writing, and 19th- century Spiritualism.

Jason assists the director of the Gender Studies academic program and performs grading duties. She also maintains the GS website and newsletter.
Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary program; consequently, we offer courses in nearly every discipline. Students can design their own major or a specialized certificate program reflective of their personal areas of interest.
