CENTER FOR EYE CARE

COMPLIMENTARY EXAMINATION POLICIES

1. Pre-clinic examination

a. All first year optometry students will be required to have a comprehensive eye examination in their first semester of school at no cost. Charges for glasses and contact lenses and additional procedures or services resulting from this examination will be at the usual and customary rates.

b. In the event that there are fewer first year optometry students than second year students, additional patients will be recruited from among faculty, staff or students.

Justification: These students will serve as patients for students taking the pre-clinic practical examination used to establish initial clinical privileges for second year optometry students. The data collected is essential to establish baselines in which to grade student performance.

2. National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations

a. Individuals recruited to participate as patients for the NBEO examination will receive a complimentary eye examination. Charges for glasses and contact lenses and additional procedures or services resulting from this examination will be at the usual and customary rates.

Justification: As a testing site of the NBEO, we are required to supply test patients for candidates taking Part II of the NBEO, which is required for initial licensure to practice optometry. The data collected is essential to establish baselines in which to grade candidate performance.
