The following is the list of items that can and cannot be placed in the recycling bins around campus.

 

Paper:

 GOES INTO: blue bins near the loading docks of most buildings

 

CAN INCLUDE (despite that some of the outdated posters attached to the blue bins say otherwise):

-Any type of light-weight paper

-loose-leaf paper

-notebooks (spiral binding OK)

-notepad paper

-envelopes (plastic windows OK)

-brochures

-staples, paper clips, rubber bands, tape

-computer paper

-magazines

-newspapers

 

CANNOT INCLUDE:

-cardboard (including light cardboard)

-phone books

-large metal clips/ fasteners

-metal three-ring binders

-construction paper

-brown packing paper

 

Plastic:

GOES INTO: the large white (or decorated in many cases) plastic bins

 

CAN INCLUDE (despite that the sign on outside of bins says only #’s 1 and 2):

Plastic #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and clean plastic grocery and shopping bags

 

CANNOT INCLUDE:

Plastic # 6 (Caution: some of the to-go containers in the Nosh are #6)

 

Aluminum and Glass:

GOES INTO: the large white/decorated bins

 

CAN INCLUDE:

Any aluminum cans, aluminum foil, or aluminum packaging, and any glass containers.

 

CANNOT INCLUDE:

Tin or steel! (Soup cans and tuna cans, for instance, contain steel – we cannot recycle them.)

 

Note: Containers to be recycled need to be relatively clean. No food waste! For bottles, please leave the cap on if the bottle has not been rinsed out.
