Pocket Power

Good habits begin early in life. Start your K-2 students on a plan to lead them to financial health.

Sixteen lessons divided into the five theme areas of earning an income, saving, spending, borrowing, and managing money, are found in the K-2 curriculum, Pocket Power. Each lesson, if fully implemented, will generally take two class periods. Most lessons include two to three major activities besides the Warm-up (introduction) and the Cool Down (summary and review). The activities are categorized as those suitable for all students at grades K-2 and those that may be challenging for some students at the K-2 level.

Nine lessons are estimated to take one to two class periods. The other six generally take between 2 to 4 class periods. Shaping Up Your Financial Future

Here are more exercises to keep 6-8 students from getting financially flabby.

The 17 lessons in the 6-8 document are divided into five theme areas: the economic way of thinking, earning an income, saving, spending and using credit, and managing money. Most of the lessons have several parts—taking two to three days to complete. Each lesson has a separate assessment component with evaluation activities ranging from paper-and-pencil quizzes to action-oriented tasks for students to do individually or in a group.
