PREREQUISITES:  CMIS 142 (VB Programming) and 270 (Structured Analysis and Design)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Analysis, design, and implementation of Internet web-site home pages using current tools of hypertext markup languages, integrated software packages, and specialized web creation software.

OBJECTIVES: 

• Differentiate between Web Servers and Web Technologies
• Describe major design guidelines to ensure homepage usability
• Develop HTML code and publish it to test intranet web server
• Create web site to promote individual or small company
• Implement Layout techniques with tables, templates, and frames
• Enhance the capability of web sites: links, ready-made components, dynamic elements, communicating with your visitors, and providing ways to find information
• Create web pages that access and query a data base
• Develop team skills while creating a business oriented web site
• Explain and apply object-oriented application processes including the Web Application Extension (WAE) of the Unified Modeling Language (UML)

GRADING SCALE: 

• Straight Scale: 90-100% = A, 80-89% = B, 70-79% = C, 60-69% = D, below 60% is Failing.
• Lab participation will be evaluated by members of each team.  These evaluations will be used by the instructor to determine each student's final project grade.
• The scoring of tests, labs and assignments will be as follows:
  • Individual Assignments: 14 Assignments @ 20 points each = 280 points
  • Project: 100 Points
  • 2 Exams (100 Points each) = 200 points

EXAMINATIONS:  Examination questions will be taken from lectures (which may cover material beyond the text), assigned readings, assignments and projects.  There will be two exams.  The instructor must be notified in advance of the exam if you will be missing the exam.  Make-up exams will only be given to students with a credible excuse.  Otherwise a grade of zero will be awarded.  There may be short quizzes over the material covered the previous session. If quizzes are given they will increase the total number of points for the class.

ATTENDANCE, INCOMPLETES & WITHDRAWALS:  Grades of incomplete will not be given unless some act beyond your control takes place which materially affects your ability to complete the course, for example severe illness, emotional trauma due to the death in the family, or accident.  Students are expected to attend all of every session.  See the University policy on withdrawals.
