Year 2000 Information page for Apple Macintosh computer users
| Hardware | Operating Systems | Applications |
From the beginning all models of Apple Macintosh computers have successfully been designed with readiness for the year 2000 in mind. Every Macintosh model ever made, for example Macintosh SE, Power Macintosh, and PowerBook will correctly handle the rollover from 1999 to 2000.
There are no hardware issues!! If you would like to read a more in depth affirmation of this please visit http://www.apple.com/about/year2000/y2khw.html
Currently, Apple has tested only the latest "supported" versions of the MAC Operating System. The versions currently supported by Apple are 7.5.5, 7.6.1, 8.1, 8.5, 8.5.1, and 8.6.
To determine what Operating system your Apple computer has:
1) Close all applications.
2) Click on the Apple icon at the top left hand corner of the screen.
3) Click on "About this Macintosh" or "About this Computer" at the top of the menu. A box will appear displaying several items of information. Next to the words System Software or Mac OS you will see a series of numbers identifying the version of the Macintosh Operating System you currently have.
If your MAC has an "unsupported" Operating System, you can determine whether your Macintosh Operating System is Year 2000 compliant, by following the steps at Apple's "How to Test Your Macintosh" site at http://www.apple.com/about/year2000/y2ktest.html. If your Macintosh fails these tests and you would like to upgrade your Operating System yourself, follow the instructions in the next paragraph. However, if you feel that you need assistance upgrading your system software, call the Technology Support Center at 516-6034 and request for a support technician to come and update your Operating System.
Faculty and Staff using earlier versions of the Macintosh Operating System (e.g. 6.0, 7.0, or 7.1) need to update their OS to 7.5.3 before they can update to 7.5.5. The update to Macintosh OS 7.5.3 can be found at http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10560. For users with Macintosh Operating System 7.5.3 or later that need upgrades to a "supported" version, goto the following site that applies:
