Recognizing the distinct marketing and financial advantages of maintaining a singular website application, UMSL's Information Technology Services (ITS) and University Marketing and Communications manage a central Content Management System (CMS) application for all university websites. The CMS application (Cascade by Hannon-Hill) provides a tool for creating, editing and publishing webpages without having to know HTML or other coding languages. The CMS ensures that all navigation, headings, font and style sheet information remains consistent across all UMSL webpages. It also allows MarCom and ITS to have administrative access to all university websites to provide support as needed.
The Cascade production servers were upgraded to the latest version of Cascade 7 (7.14.2) on 1/12/17. The 7.14.2 version update is an intermediate step in implementing a full update to Cascade 8.0, released on 8/30/16. Cascade CMS 8 is a major release that introduces a completely redesigned and reorganized interface, modal-based actions, updated search and replace, upgraded WYSIWYG editor, and a new asset choosing and context menu experience. MarCom and ITS are collaborating on updating the system, training references, and CMS user support services to ensure a successful update. This update is scheduled to take place in fall 2017.
