Phillip Chew University of Missouri-St. Louis E mail: "CHEW, LINDELL PHILLIP" LPC1@umsl.edu PERSONAL INCOME TAX SERVICE 2009 November 5, 2008 Dear UM-St. Louis Accounting / Business Administration Students: Beta Alpha Psi and the College of Business Administration are continuing a community service tradition by sponsoring a free personal income tax service for low income taxpayers and seniors through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) Program. Business students with nine or more semester credit hours of Accounting may participate in preparing 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and various other tax forms at community centers throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Under this program, you will not sign the tax return nor have any legal liability. Experience has shown that participation in the V.I.T.A. Program has been an important consideration of prospective employers. Other additional benefits of this program are: one hour of college credit which does not affect the total accounting credits limit, practical tax experience including a six-hour tax preparation training workshop conducted by CERTIFIED PROFESSIONALS and personal satisfaction from community service. The requirements for participation in V.I.T.A. include: attendance at the training workshop conducted on campus and weekly field service from early-February through April 15 at a community center or library venue. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2009, in Room 126 J.C. Penney Building. Course registration, orientation, and site assignments will begin at 9:30 a.m. The workshop also encompasses a training seminar beginning at 11:00 a.m. Complementary refreshments will be provided throughout the day. If you would like to participate, please complete the bottom of this form and return it to Professor Lindell Chew, Room 1005 SSB Tower, or respond by e-mail (LPC1@UMSL.EDU). You may also obtain additional information on the history of VITA at UMSL and VITA 2002-2003 results by contacting Professor Chew [(phone (314) 516-5626, fax (314) 576-8855. We are looking forward to your reply.
