Ph.D. Student Bio & Interests
Kimberly Martin, Ph.D. Candidate
Kim entered the UMSL CCJ Ph.D. program in the Fall
of 2003 after completing an M.S. in criminal justice from Georgia
State University. Before that, she earned a B.A. in political science and a B.S. in criminal justice from GSU.
Kim's research interests include gender and crime, and how the structural and cultural features of communities shape violence and the application of law. She is currently a research assistant for Dr. Eric Baumer. Her work with Dr. Baumer focuses on examining how local social, cultural and political contexts shape the severity of legal sanctions applied to felony defendants.
