Bob Bursik, Curators Professor
Bob Bursik is a Fellow of the American Society of
Criminology and the outgoing editor of its flagship journal, Criminology, after serving two terms in that capacity.
Although he has published papers concerning low self-control and crime, offense specialization, and the statistical modeling of crime trends, most of his research has focused on the relationship between neighborhood dynamics and crime rates (see, for example, Neighborhoods and Crime: Dimensions of Effective Community Control, with Harold Grasmick, 1993).
His most recent work in that area has explored the manner and degree to which intra- and inter-community relational networks serve as regulatory mechanisms. He recently started a new project that examines the rural poverty/crime association in Appalachia.
