Alan F. Hauff is Associate Director of the Center For Competitive Analysis. The Center is supported by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Outreach Development Fund. He is a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri - St. Louis in the College of Business Administration's Continuing Education & Outreach program and is the Director of the Small Business Programs.  Prior to accepting this position, he was a faculty member and Director of the Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, and a faculty member and manager of the Ellensburg Business Incubator in Ellensburg, Washington. In addition to teaching academic and continuing education classes in entrepreneurship and small business management, he has consulted with over 1,500 start-up and existing business owners in the last 10 years. In 1996, the Illinois Small Business Development Association awarded him their "Certified Business Consultant" designation, its highest recognition for consultants. 

Alan is a graduate of the University of Washington (Seattle) and received his MBA degree from Washington University (St. Louis).

Mr. Fred Goss is the Director of the Small Business Research and Information Center (SBRIC) at the University of Missouri-Rolla. He is responsible for the operations of the center's two principal activities-small business information and research assistance through the Missouri Small Business Development Center program, and industry analysis through the UM-Rolla branch of the Center for Competitive Analysis (CCA). Mr. Goss was instrumental in developing the original design and mission of CCA, and coordinating CCA's operations with other programs within University Outreach and Extension. He has played a significant role in the ongoing activities of CCA, ranging from developing criteria for industry selection, developing analytical frameworks for industry study, searching electronic databases for pertinent industry information from government, trade and other sources, and developing strategy for delivery of CCA information products and services to industry representatives and other end users. 

Mr. Goss earned a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and an M. Phil. from the University of Kansas. He has been working in support of small business community in Missouri and nationally for 22 years. During that time, he has served as editor for a number of small business publications including MissouriTechNet News, Newsletter of the International Council for Small Business, SBIDA News and others. He has been instrumental in developing a centralized information and analysis resource available to all small businesses in Missouri and to programs dedicated to serving them.
                                                                                                                    

Catherine Frank

Ms. Catherine Frank is Coordinator, Project Research, at the Small Business Research & Information Center located at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Her contributions to the Center for Competitive Analysis include researching and collecting information on the industries and issues taken on for study by CCA. She has participated in:  creating the criteria by which industries are selected for study; compiling the set of questions that each industry study addresses;  searching electronic databases for the most recent industry information available from government, trade, and other sources; assisting students who work to locate specific information in the research materials to answer the questions posed by CCA; preparing industry data and other content for a regularly updated report on the business climate in Missouri. 

Ms. Frank earned a B.S. in geology and mineralogy from the Ohio State University. She has nearly 20 years' experience as a technical writer, editor, and researcher, 8 of which were spent as the managing editor of an engineering management journal. She possesses Web publishing expertise and has completed training courses on a wide range of topics including database searching, market research, Internet marketing, business assessment, and geographic information systems.
