The Gender Inequities Restroom Queuing/Simulation Problem. Here is an example from a paper on this issue by Ahn Tran. Combining queues may be a bad strategy in this case (unless there is much excess capacity that isn't being used) as the theory predicts increasing variance in service times exacerbates the line length.
