Stephen DaLay

Lecturer


He received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1989. His primary areas of responsibility at UMSL include teaching Drawing and Design, and managing the Woodshop. Prior to working at UMSL, Da Lay worked in the private and commercial sectors for the past 30 yrs. as an art director, print supervisor, pictorial painter, sign painter, and screen printer.

DaLay has shown his work throughout the St. Louis and Kansas City areas since the  1970’s; He has shown at Drive Agency, Fleishman-Hillard, Maryville College, UMSL,
Kansas City Art Institute, and at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. DaLay is an active member of  Art St. Louis and has shown in their gallaries.DaLay contributed two sculptures to the People Project and has participated in the Art and Soul Project. Da Lay has been working on the DREAD STEVE SCROLLS using a variety of printing techniques. The scrolls are: “The Four Holy Fat Sisters”, “The Drone”, and, “Just a Flesh Wound”.

Recently, DaLay has begun researching and the drawings for his fourth and final scroll of the series, “Lost on the Path”. His newest endeavor, the “Face Project” will include a series of woodcuts that will be displayed in an accordian book.
