UMSL developed a visiting designer lecture series on a limited budget with the goal of bringing in lecturers from a wide range of regions and design disciplines. The St Louis design community is invited to join us and create a wider scholarly design discussion in our city. Events introduce our students to local professionals as well as students from other schools. The Lecture series also brings outside influences and energies into the classroom from across the United States. Through the lecture series, our students learn to be savvier researchers, and are setting more ambitious goals for themselves. As the project continues to build momentum, we are extending the lectures to workshops, and looking for places to exhibit the collaborative posters. We advertise events on the local AIGA website. The lecture series continues to offer new teaching and learning opportunities every year: on a small budget, we are creating passion for design that is changing our program and our community.
