Luci Mauricio-McMichael, has been a faculty member in the Art and Art History Department since the Spring of 1993. Her primary responsibility includes teaching a methods course for pre-service elementary teachers, Art 1134 Art Activities for Elementary Teachers, and studio-art foundation courses such as Art 1150 - Design II, and Art 1250 - Composition. Prior to coming to UMSL, Mauricio-McMichael taught art and art education courses at the St. Louis Community College-Meramec for 15 years.
Luci Mauricio-McMichael earned her BFA in sculpture from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1974; completed her MAT in 1987 and received a Post Master Certification in Aesthetic in 1988 both from Webster University-St.Louis, Missouri. In 2002 she received her MFA in sculpture from Fontbonne University-St. Louis, Missouri. She also holds an Art Certificate K-12 (1985) from the Missouri State Board of Education.
Since the opening of the UMSL Fine Arts Department in 1996, Mauricio-McMichael has curated 6 exhibits for Gallery FAB, a gallery located in the Fine Arts Building. These exhibits give UMSL fine art students the unique experience of viewing the works of world-renown national and regional artists right outside their classrooms. Her latest curatorial exhibit (January 16 – February 16, 2007) features the works of book-arts artist, M. J. Goerke. As an active member of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Mauricio-McMichael also curated the Electronic Gallery, NAEA membership exhibit from 1999 to 2002. An active artist, Luci Mauricio-McMichael exhibits her ceramic sculptures, book arts and installations nationally.
