Part 1. Thinking and Background Information:

1.    IDENTIFY PROBLEMS to be Solved:  (Back to ALL Social Studies Units)

2. BACKGROUND: Three Weeksof Direct Instruction by the teacher.   Worksheets, skill development, _notes from text, and vocabulary assignments by the student.....  with  quizzes, etc.(Students usually work by themselves.)

Part 2. Building Knowledge and Concepts:

1.  THE STUDENTS BECOME EXPERTS: ...on LIFE IN THE MIDDLE EAST:   

·      International Specialists – Searching for Peace in the Middle East:

Each coop group will research information concerning current problems in the Middle East.  Each group will

take on the role and responsibilities of International Specialists (IS) Research information and presentation

resources shall be stored in  notebooks or folder on the Team 6-4 Intranet.

1. The PROBLEM IN THE MIDDLE EAST:

  • DIFFERENT POINTS of VIEW:

    1. How to Consider Different Points of View

    2. An Example: Jack and the Beanstalk

    3. Points of View in the Middle East Today

    4. Points of View in the World Today

  • HISTORICAL and CULTURAL ROOTS of CURRENT PROBLEM
  • The PROBLEM HAS A LIFE OF ITS OWN
  • TERRORISM
  • IRAQ

2. A SOLUTION:

  • CAUSE and EFFECT
  • COST
  • NEEDED:DESIRE, TRUST, GUARANTEE

3. The SOLUTION:

  • PROPOSED BY EACH STUDENT GROUP
  • ANALYSIS OF COST
  • NEEDED to BE SUCCESSFUL AND LASTING--specifics and detail
There will be opportunities for note-taking some serious “role playing” so as to really understand the problems involved.   We need to work together closely … with trust and sensitivity to understand the issues involved  in what have become “real-world” problems that adults have NOT successfully solved …. Yet……

4 Conflict Resolution the Peaceful Way Although not a current events site, some "lessons" learned from confict resolution MAY apply to solving the Middle East Problem
5 PRINT MEDIA Laminated readings from St.Louis Post-Dispatch and Time Magazine
6 Current Events Headquarters A Current Events Site maintained by PCMS (Team 6-4) Students ... includes a link to the Current Events section of THE TALKING PLACE
