The Symphony of
Alpha Xi Delta

The Symphony embodies the high ideals that all Alpha Xi's hold near and dear. It is our message to the world, our open creed, laying out all the principles by which each and every sister in Alpha Xi Delta strives to attain in her everyday life.

"Be present at our table Lord,
Be here and everywhere adored.
These mercies bless and grant that we,
May feat in paradise with thee.
God bless our dear Fraternity,
May we er'e united be.
May our Quill reign eternally.

Alpha Xi Delta Poem

The Poem is recited during certain ceremonies, and is intended to extend the hand of friendship and sisterhood to potential new members.

"Now is the hour of enchantment,
Now while the candlelight glows,
Quietly let us present you,
The thorn, the stem, and the rose.

The thorn is for tears shed together.
The stem for growth we all learn.
While petal by petal unfolding,
Each rose will bloom in its turn.

This petal for friendship extended.
This petal for joys yet unknown.
This petal for dreams in the making.
This petal to keep all alone.

The garden of roses is strengthened,
By plants that are tender and new.
There is room in the garden to offer,
The place of the rose to you."

The Coat of Arms of Alpha Xi Delta consists of a shield supported by two griffins. In the golden band across the center of the shield is the Quill. Three conventional roses are at the top of the shield, and a broken sword is in the lower portion of the shield. Above the shield on the knight's helmet is a twist of ribbon in alternating blue and gold, and a blossomed rose.

The colors of Alpha Xi Delta are double blue (light and dark) and gold.

The Fraternity flower is the pink Killarney rose, was chosen by our Founders to compliment the white rose of our unofficial brother fraternity, Sigma Nu.

The Quill, our badge, is worn by initiated members of Alpha Xi Delta and represents our open motto "The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword."

Our Mascot, BetXi Bear, was adopted in 1989.

The New Member Pin is worn by yet uninitiated women during their new member period.

The Colony Pin is used in place of the new member pin for founding members of a colony. A new chapter of Alpha Xi Delta is called a colony during its initial pledging period.

The Flag
bears the coat of arms; ten gold stars, one for each Founder; and the Fraternity name written out. The flag is often used in chapter meetings and for display purposes.

The Banner, the top bar bearing ten gold stars, one for each of the Founders; the middle bar the Fraternity letters; and the bottom bar our golden Quill.
The National President's Medallion, a gold disc, is worn by each National President during her term of office. On one side is the name of the Fraternity, the Coat of Arms and the Gavel. On the other side is the Oath of Office by which each elected member of the National Council pledges her loyalty and service. The links in the gold chain attached to the Medallion represent all Alpha Xi Delta chapters ever installed, and each link bears the chapter's Greek-letter name.
