"Alpha Xi Delta believes in the dignity of the individual child. Children deserve the fullest opportunities to develop to their highest potential-- intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically, and in an environment conducive to the development of character, personal responsibility, good citizenship and a sense of well being. Individually and collectively, Alpha Xi Delta members and chapters support organizations that nurture the child."

Choose Children

Alpha Xi Delta's interest in children and their special needs led us to adopt Choose Children, a philanthropic initiative that emphasizes voluntary service in all areas of children’s well being.

Choose Children isn't an organization - it's an idea. Alpha Xi Delta gives members the flexibility to look in their communities and decide how they can best benefit children. For some chapters it's raising money for a local organization; for others it's spending time tutoring children at an after-school program or working with kids at an abused children’s home.

Unlike many other Greek organizations, Alpha Xi Delta is not exclusively linked with one philanthropic organization. Alpha Xi Delta gives members the flexibility to look in their communities and decide how they can best benefit children.

Epsilon Xi at UM-St. Louis does a variety of philanthropy projects each month such as:

* Making homemade Tnanksgiving dinner for the kids Children's Home

*
"Trick or Trunk" on Halloween for St. Vincent's kids

* Playing Kickball with the kids at St. Vincent's.

* Raising money for children with cancer by hosting the Annual "Choosing to Help Children With Cancer" Benefit Dinner for the Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital's Bob Costas Cancer Center

*Helping the Greek Commuinty at UM-St. Louis organize a charity basketball game for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation

*Raising money for First Book to proivde children of low-income families with books to help spread literacy to every child.

*Volunteering at the NAAR Autism Walk

*Partnered with First Book and Build-A-Bear, Alpha Xi Delta chapters will be hosting "Build-A-Party" days in February 2008 all over the country and building "READ Teddies", proceeds of which will go to First Book. Our chapter's teddies will then be donated to children at St. Vincent's.
