poem.jpgWelcome to American Literature! I am Ms. Hyde, and I

will be your guide to American Literature for the next five

weeks. I say “guide” because that is what I will be –

someone who will help you navigate unfamiliar territory

by pointing out trails that have been forged by people who

came before you. HOWEVER, I don’t want to trap you

believing these are the only answers, into being round; in fact,

I encourage you to break out in rhomboidal planes and

polyhedral whenever possible!

In this class were will read and discuss literature and literacy

and how these things fit into the world around us socially,

intellectually, and professionally. We will used a variety of

genres and media to create a central vocabulary and then to

examine four major themes in our lives: race and ethnicity,

war and social conflict, class and power, and individual

identity.

I have never taught this course the same way twice because where it goes is dependent on YOU, the student and YOU, the class. Remember to think critically and have fun with these texts!
