Background
The Accounting Club is open to all students who wish to be involved with campus
activities. This is a great organization for all students, particularly anyone
considering a career in the accounting profession. Besides learning about the
accounting profession in a relaxed atmosphere, the members get a chance to meet
other business majors and potential employers providing a great networking opportunity.

Objectives
The Accounting Club's primary goal is to promote the accounting profession and to
inform students about all the wonderful opportunities available in an accounting career.
Speakers from the local business community who are invited to the club meetings
normally are given a brief tour of the campus, have lunch with the club officers at
the Millennium Student Center and are given an Accounting Club shirt after their
presentation. The Accounting Club's association with the local business community
does a lot to enhance UM - St. Louis's reputation.
Normally once each semester, the club will take a field trip to places like the
Federal Reserve Bank, Art Museum, Boeing, etc. to learn more about these organizations
and how the accounting functions are performed. In addition, over the years many
members have found part time and in some cases their full time career positions
through contacts made at Accounting Club meetings. Besides valuable contacts being
made with the business community, students are also given an opportunity to interact
with Accounting Area faculty members in an informal atmosphere at the meetings and
social events.

Social Events
The Accounting Club, is not all business. Each semester social events such
as joint Accounting Club/Beta Alpha Psi party, baseball or hockey games (with tailgate
party), and intramural sporting events are planned, in which all members are encouraged
to participate in. Besides giving T-shirts to guest speakers and participating faculty,
T-shirts are given to members who attend most of the club functions. This encourages
membership, participation and retention.

Executive Board
Besides the career and social aspects of the club, the officers are given a great
opportunity to enhance their team building and leadership skills. Planning meetings
and social events, assigning tasks, delegating responsibility and attending the annual
Leadership Training Retreat enhance skills that will be useful throughout their lives.
In addition, being an Accounting Club officer is also a resume builder.
