VISITING THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS IN THE 1950s
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS:

For this assignment, you are living near the city of St. Louis during the 1950s. You and your family are going to spend the day in downtown St. Louis shopping AND attending an event. You are going to write a letter to your grandmother about you visit to the city.

The letter must include:

  1. Explanation of the event your family attends. Give specific details about the event.
  2. Description of the city, a neighborhood, and buildings. Be specific in describing the buildings, include the address and architecture if possible. The building you describe does not have to be in the neighborhood you describe, but it can be.
  3. Description of at least one interesting person living in St. Louis in the 1950s.
  4. Recollection of one fun activity or event that you participated in during your visit to St. Louis.
  5. Details about your shopping trip. You must describe two stores, including Stix, Baer and Fuller.
  6. Explanation of one concern or problem you saw while in the city. Recommend changes that would make St. Louis a better place to live or visit.

As you read and navigate the site, take notes to use in creating your letter. Always go to “Perspectives” when available. This provides primary source material about the pages you just visited.
