Show Me Standards 1.1, 1.2,
1.4, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9
Process
- Allow students time to use the
time travel feature on the website. They should examine different parts of
the city using this feature, including the Court House. The goal should be
to examine buildings, technology, and transportation differences.
- Instruct students that they will
be asked to discuss similarities and differences when they are finished exploring.
- A suggested format for notetaking
by students might be as follows:

- Teacher should examine the website
to check for student accuracies as they are taking notes.
- Students can compare their charts
with a partner, small group, or as a class.
- They can then complete the VENN
diagram as an illustration of the similarities and differences in the city
of St. Louis from the two time periods.

- Activity Choices:
- Compare/contrast essay
- Create a poster with half representing
1850 and the other half representing 1950. The students should include drawings
and facts.
- Have students study one aspect
of their learning further and report back to the class. For example in small
groups they could research further the Old Court House, transportation or
technology.
- Compare/contrast life in the
1850s and 1950s through drawings, diagrams, idea webs, etc.
- Have students create a Power
Point or Hyperstudio presentation using photos and information they discovered
through their search.
