ABOUT THE VIRTUAL CITY PROJECT
The St. Louis Regional History Project utilizes interactive web technologies to explore the history of the City of St. Louis and the St. Louis region.
Currently only the 1850s and the 1950s decades are active. The Project begins with a three-dimentional, interactive model of the city ca. 1850s, and contains such places to visit as the courthouse. In the 1850s one can explore the city and learn about the Dred Scott case. The 1950s model currently explores the themes of civil rights and consumer culture. Objects and buildings on the left side can activate relevant historical information on the right side. For example, clicking on the Board of Education building will lead you on a path describing the intergration of St.Louis public schools. The 1950s site is currently the most complete at this time.
The Virtual City will grow richer in detail as the St. louis Regional History Project is expanded in time and space.
