Admissions Check List
Step 1: Apply for Admission
- Review the admissions requirements for UMSL here.
- Apply using the online or paper application here.
- The application fee is waived for veterans. Click here for the UMSL Veteran Application guide that shows how to apply for free.
For Transfer Students
- Request official transcripts be sent to UMSL from all institutions of higher learning in which you have attended previously.
- Send transcripts to: Office of Admissions, University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1 University Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63121-4400.

Step 2: Request Military Transcripts
- The UMSL Veterans Center highly recommends submitting military transcripts to the University for evaluation. In most cases, course credit may be given for military technical training when the credit recommendations are similar to courses offered at UMSL. Have records sent to: Director of Admissions, University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1 University Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63121-4400
- Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy: Active Duty, Reserve and Veterans can request their transcripts through the Joint Services Transcript system (JST):
- Air Force: Active Duty, Reserve and Veterans can request their transcripts through the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF):

Step 3: Apply for GI Bill Benefits at ebenefits.va.gov
- Call our office at 314-516-5705 with questions about education benefits.
- Apply online for GI Bill VA Educational Benefits (Before applying for benefits please ensure you have all the required paperwork necessary to submit an application for VA Educational Benefits).
- You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) within 3-4 weeks.
- Bring a copy of your COE and DD-214 to the VA certifying official in the Veterans Center, 211 Clark Hall.
Step 4: Register for Classes and complete the Enrollment Data Form (EDF)
- Contact information for all the academic advising offices can be found here.
- Ask your advisor to register you for the Veteran-Specific Orientation Course (MVS 1100). It's a 1-credit hour elective that is designed for incoming freshmen and sophomore student veterans. The purpose is to introduce students to campus,veteran-specific resources, develop study skills, and explore major and career options. This class is covered by GI Bill and can be taken in place of other first-year experience or university studies courses.
- Complete the Enrollment Data Form (EDF)
- At your initial meeting with your academic advisor, bring a completed Enrollment Data Form (EDF Form)(pdf) and ask your advisor to sign and submit to the VA certifying official in the Veterans Center, 211 Clark Hall.
- This form must be completed EACH semester in which you wish to receive benefits. Be sure to bring the EDF Form with you when speaking with your advisor or you will not receive benefits.
Step 5: Apply for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)
- The University of Missouri - St. Louis Veterans Center highly recommends that all student veterans apply for financial aid. You may be eligible to receive federal grants to assist you financially while pursuing a higher education. The Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) application can be completed online at: www.fafsa.gov.

Step 7: Register for Veteran Info Session at New or Transfer Student Orientation
- Sign up for one of the following Orientations:
- New Student Orientation (for students with less than 24 college credit hours) - August 4th
- Transfer Orientation - June 9th, July 14th, August 12th
