What's New for Winter 2007: Unix/SSO Integration
Admiral and Jinx are now part of the SSO (Single Sign On) system.
This change makes it possible for you to use the same username and password with your Unix account, that you use for all other SSO services, such as MyGateway, email, and computer login.
Please continue reading for a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
Why has this change been made?
Until now, SSO accounts and Unix accounts were requested, created, and maintained separately. In many cases, Unix usernames varied slightly from SSO usernames, and passwords were not synchronized between the two systems.
This setup required users to keep track of separate information for these accounts, and at times increased the turnaround for account-related requests.
With the introduction of SSO integration, all newly-created SSO accounts now have a Unix ID reserved automatically.
This change also introduces SSO's 180-day password change requirement to Unix accounts -- a standard policy which helps keep your passwords more secure.
What services will be affected by this change?
Users of FTP, SSH/Telnet, and email services on Admiral and Jinx may be affected by these changes.
At this time, Samba access on Jinx will be unaffected by password changes.
How do I know what username/password I should use to log in?
All Unix accounts that were active in December 2006 were migrated to work with the SSO system.
If your Unix username is the same as your SSO, and you have changed your SSO password since January 2007, try your SSO username and current password.
If your Unix username is the same as your SSO, but you have not changed your SSO password since December 2006 or before, your Unix-only password will continue to work until your next SSO password change.
If your Unix username is different than your SSO, your accounts can be merged so that they use the same username and password. Email addresses and URLs will continue to work. Please contact the Technology Support Center at 314-516-6034 for more information.
How will this affect others who try to email me or reach my web pages?
Your email addresses and URLs will continue to function normally, even if your username changes.
