Configure Outlook 2003 for Windows Live using IMAP

If you are using Symantec AntiVirus you will need to Disable Internet E-Mail Auto-Protect in order to send secure mail through our server.

  1. Open Outlook 2003.
  2. Click the Tools menu.
  3. Select E-mail Accounts from the menu. 
  4. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.
  5. Select IMAP and click Next.
  6. Enter your full name in the Your Name box.
  7. Enter your e-mail address (username@mail.missouri.edu) in the E-mail Address box.
  8. In the Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) box enter outlook.com.
  9. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box enter your SMTP server.
          Click here to find your SMTP server address.
  10. In the User Name box enter your Windows Live ID (username@mail.umsl.edu).
  11. In the Password box enter your password.
  12. Click More Settings.
  13. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
  14. Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.
  15. Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
  16. Click the Advanced tab.
  17. Check the box under Incoming Server (IMAP) that says This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
  18. Check the box under Outgoing Server (SMTP) that says This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
  19. Change Outgoing server (SMTP): from 25 to 587
  20. Click OK.
  21. Click Next.
  22. Click Finish.
  23. Click Close.
