Configure Outlook 2003 for Windows Live using IMAP
If you are using Symantec AntiVirus you will need to Disable Internet E-Mail Auto-Protect in order to send secure mail through our server.
- Open Outlook 2003.
- Click the Tools menu.
- Select E-mail Accounts from the menu.
- Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.
- Select IMAP and click Next.
- Enter your full name in the Your Name box.
- Enter your e-mail address (username@mail.missouri.edu) in the E-mail Address box.
- In the Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) box enter outlook.com.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box enter your SMTP server.
Click here to find your SMTP server address. - In the User Name box enter your Windows Live ID (username@mail.umsl.edu).
- In the Password box enter your password.
- Click More Settings.
- Click the Outgoing Server tab.
- Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.
- Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Check the box under Incoming Server (IMAP) that says This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
- Check the box under Outgoing Server (SMTP) that says This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
- Change Outgoing server (SMTP): from 25 to 587
- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Click Close.
