Configuring Microsoft Outlook for use with UMSL VPN
The following steps will assist you in setting up Microsoft Outlook for use with the UMSL Exchange Server and UMSL VPN.
Please note: The University of Missouri-St. Louis does not provide
Faculty/Staff with software for home use.
To use Microsoft Outlook at home you must purchase a copy of Microsoft
Office for personal use.
- You must first connect to UMSL VPN. For assistance in setting up UMSL VPN Click Here.
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- Double click Mail.
- Click Add, click Microsoft Exchange Server, click OK.
- For the Microsoft Exchange Server enter stl-mail3.stl.umsl.edu or stl-mail4.stl.umsl.edu (This depends on your last name. If your last name starts with letters A-K, use stl-mail3. If your last name begins with the letters L-Z, use stl-mail4).
- For the mail box enter your Gateway ID, click check name.
- A Enter Password box will pop up.
- For a Username enter your Gateway ID.
- For a Domain Name enter umsl-users
- For a Password enter your e-mail password.
- If done correctly the mailbox entry will resolve your name.
- Click OK, you will not have to perform this operation again.
- Open Microsoft Outlook.
- A Enter Password box will pop up.
- For a Username enter your Gateway ID.
- For a Domain Name enter umsl-users
- For a Password enter your e-mail password.
- Click OK, it will take a while to retrieve all of you mail, the more messages you retain the longer it will take to retrieve your mail.
You have just configured Outlook to retrieve your UMSL e-mail from the Microsoft Exchange Server.
The preceding four steps will have to be repeated every time you open Microsoft Outlook to check your UMSL mail on the Exchange server.
No e-mail will be saved to your machine. IF YOU DELETE A MESSAGE IT WILL BE DELETED PERMANENTLY.
