Technology Fridays
Based on the responses to the Technology Needs Survey from earlier this semester, Information Technology Services is pleased to announce, Technology Fridays beginning April 2, 2004. Technology Fridays will be a series of short (60-75 minute) workshops focusing on a variety of issues related to using technology and the Internet in the classroom. The Technology Fridays series represents an attempt to provide assistance on an ongoing, regular basis, and will serve as a replacement for our traditional “Summer Institute.”Each Friday, two workshops will be offered (each begins at 10:30, and is repeated at 11:45) to help faculty, staff and GTAs learn more about specific information technology resources here at UM-St. Louis. The first set of workshops, starting Friday April 2 and running through May 7, will include an introduction to the new Blackboard 6.1 course management system that will be powering our campus MyGateway system. The new MyGateway offers a variety of improvements for instructors and students, including the integration of services, like Centra’s online, synchronous learning environment, and single sign-on access to a variety of campus resources. Summer course sites will be available on the new MyGateway system on April 1, 2004, so our upcoming workshops will provide instructors the opportunity to begin developing their upcoming class content. For those who will not be teaching summer courses, we will have developmental sites available so that you can receive hands-on experience in using the new MyGateway system. Along with an introduction to the new MyGateway, we will also be offering a series of workshops concerning the online, synchronous learning environment: Centra, using online resources at the library, developing web pages, and other topics.
Technology Fridays workshops will be held in SSB 134 and SSB 102. You are encouraged to review the schedule and register to attend workshops via the web page. We will be adding workshops, so check back often)
Technology Fridays will continue (with new workshops, as well as an ongoing focus on the new MyGateway system) throughout the summer, and the coming academic year.
