Upgrade Projects in Networking
In 2009, the networking department together with MOREnet upgraded our link to a 10GB line and worked on redundancy to avoid any major network downtime. Our goal is to never loose connectivity in the campus, if one site fails, the other one takes over immediately.
In 2009, networking continued to add Wireless Access Points around campus, such as Gallery 210, Provincial House and Mansion Hills. We currently have 184 Access Points around campus.
We have over 8000 active ethernet ports on campus, which we perform constant maintenance on to make sure everything is up to standards. Internet bandwidth provided by MORENet, our ISP, is continuing to increase, reaching peaks near the maximum contracted bandwidth for the University I1 (Public) and I2 (Research) networks. The network can also be measured by its latency on the I1 and I2 networks.
* maps of I1, I2 and Latency can only be viewed by ITS staff.
