Grade Book Settings

To manage the grade book settings, click on "Gradebook Settings Gradebook Settings" link located near the top of the grade book spreadsheet.

From this page you can modify:

  1. Spreadsheet Settings: change the way student information is displayed in the spreadsheet.
  2. Manage Gradebook Categories: create new categories into which grade book items can be grouped.
  3. Manage Display Options: create and modify grade display options and set their values.

Spreadsheet settings:

There are four options for displaying student information: (at least one must be selected):

Student Name: Last Name, First Name (example: Public, John Q.). This is the default setting.

Student Name: First Name, Last Name (example: John Q. Public) .

User Name (displays the students' Gateway ID in a spreadsheet column).

Student ID (displays the students' student identification number in a spreadsheet column).

You can select number one or two above, as well as three and four.

Manage Gradebook Categories:

From this page you can create and add your own categories for organizing items in your class grade book (from the spreadsheet view, items can be sorted or filtered by category). Categories are assigned to items when they are created (see the Add Item screen), or you can modify an item's category via the Manage Items screen.

Manage Display Options:

From the Manage Display Options page you can add or remove "display as" settings. When adding a new display setting, or when modifying the "Letter" display setting, you can set the parameters for the grade book to use in converting numerical scores to letter grades, or display other information: pass/fail, etc; as well as how the system should calculate letter grades in calculations. You can use the "Add" button next to any line item to expand the options available.

Here's an example of a simple pass/fail setup:
