Workshops, Orientation and Training Sessions

Before the start of each semester, workshops and orientation sessions are scheduled for introductions to MyGateway, UM-St. Louis' course web management system, and the interactive, two-way video (ITV) system. Additional workshops, faculty-led discussions, and seminars are scheduled throughout the academic year, co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning, Information Technology Services and the Library, including the annual Technology Summer Institutes.

Departmental initiatives can be served with unique training sessions, too. Examples include the College of Education Online Course Developers' Workshops (semester-long) and a College of Nursing series of five sessions devoted to preparing to teach online courses.

Departmental Technology Workshops
We would be delighted to bring our technology workshops to you! To schedule a department visit just give us a call and tell us what topics you would like to learn more about, and where you would like us to come. Then inform all interested faculty and support staff of the time and place. Suggested topics are listed below, however, please feel free to choose a topic that meets your needs.

MyGateway Course Management System
Description: Making my Gateway work to fit your needs and developing a course that will facilitate student learning.

Planning and Designing for the Online Learning Environment
Description: Faculty will visualize and begin to rethink teaching and learning activities for the online learning environment. Being online as an independent learner presents both opportunities and barriers. Eight steps for planning and developing content, including course requirements, will be discussed.

Using SAMBA to Make Available Documents or Multi-Media, Anytime/Anywhere
Description: Samba is a remote file storage utility provided by the University (also referred to as a Unix Shell account) that allows you to connect to a network drive from anywhere on campus and at home. Once this utility is "mapped" to your computer, your remotely stored files are as easy to access as those on your local hard drive. This utility eliminates the need for tedious File Transfer Protocol (FTP) programs; it also makes web page maintenance easier than ever.
