Technical Resources
The Faculty Resource Centers provide you with an array of in-house equipment designed to provide the necessary resources needed to integrate technology into your course objectives. We have a variety of computer workstations and other hardware devices such as scanners and printers, including a duplexing printing unit as well as a color printer.

Access to UMSL Networking, Software and Computers
Instructor and Student stations (PC)
The FRC has four computer stations that are connected to UM-St. Louis'
networked software. These are ideal for instructors who wish to prepare course assignments
that utilize UM-St. Louis networked software in a comfortable and convenient
environment. Two of these stations are fully functional instructor stations
and two are student stations. All four stations mirror existing instructor
and student configurations and all UMSL networked software can be accessed
from these stations*. Check out the complete list of available software on Windows systems.
*Some software is specifically for faculty use and is available only on instructor stations.
Mac computer station
The FRC has a iMac unit available for
instructors who wish to prepare course assignments that utilize UMSL’s
networked software in a comfortable, quiet and convenient environment.

The Faculty Resource Center also has computers available for users to
develop slides, create 35mm slide presentations, video streaming and other

Software Licenses
The Faculty Resource Center has two software packages available
to faculty and staff to install on their machines: SAS and Microcase. To obtain a licensed copy to install on your machine contact the FRC at
516-6704 or stop by CCB 105 for details.
The FRC only provides access to these statistical software packages and maintains signed license agreement forms. For help concerning technical questions or problems the following on-line resources are available.
Microcase
The FRC has Microcase available for installation on PC machines
running Windows 95 or higher.

SAS
The FRC has SAS versions 8.2, 9.1.2 and 9.1.3 available for installation
on PC and version 6 available for installation on Macintosh machines.
For more information on SAS visit the following website: http://www.sas.com/software/index.html. The SAS installation CD's contain documentation that will assist in the installation process.
Please note: Due to the demand for the statistical packages we ask that
you install the software and return it to the FRC within 48 hours.
Microsoft Software
Faculty and staff who are eligible to participate in the Desktop
plan can pick up a copy of the following software from the Faculty
Resource Center, CCB 105 or the TLC, Marillac Hall Suite 100: Microsoft Office Professional 2007,
Windows XP which includes Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Office 2004 for
Macintosh. This software can only be installed on your home machines for
work related use. There is a license agreement form that must be completed
prior to release of the software. The software is yours to keep and does
not have to be returned after installation.

Maple
Faculty and staff can obtain a copy of Maple 10 to install on their campus machine or at home. Please note these are separate downloads. Visit the following website: http://www.umsl.edu/norton. Enter your gateway id and password. Please read the license agreement form before proceeding.
SPSS Software
Faculty and staff can download a copy of SPSS to install on either
a UM-St. Louis owned computer or personal computer. Visit the following website: http://www.umsl.edu/norton. Enter your gateway id and password. Please read the license agreement form before proceeding.
Algebrator
Faculty and staff can download a copy of Algebrator to install
only on their University owned machine. Visit the following website: http://www.umsl.edu/norton. Enter your gateway id and password. Please read the license agreement form before proceeding.
Norton Antivirus
Faculty and staff can get a copy of Norton Antivirus in one of two ways:
1) Visit the Faculty Resource Center in CCB 105 and they will assist with
downloading the software. 2) Visit the following website: http://www.umsl.edu/norton. Enter your gateway id and password. Please read the license agreement form before proceeding. Norton is available for both PC and Macintosh platforms.
Flashlight Online
Flashlight Online enables you to create surveys and provide students or
research participants access via the WWW. Individual accounts for Flashlight
Online, a web-based survey-authoring tool, may be requested by emailing,

Equipment Loan
The FRC has a limited supply of hardware available for short-term checkout by faculty and staff. Faculty may also check out equipment on behalf of graduate students. If you use Outlook, you can check on the availability of a particular piece of equipment yourself, or you can call the FRC staff at 516-6704 and find out if the type of item you need is available. The TLC also has a limited supply of equipment available. Please contact them at 516-4800 to find out more information.
To view the availability of any piece of equipment, do the following:
open Public Folders,
open All Public folders,
open St. Louis,
open Departments,
open Faculty Resource Center,
open _equipment checkout.
Then, click on the kind of equipment you wish to check out as well as
the day(s) and time(s).
You can then call the FRC to have your reservation placed on the schedule.

The FRC has one overhead projector for use with transparencies. This unit is compact and weighs about 10 pounds.

File Conversion
The FRC personnel have the equipment and knowledge to help you create,
convert and edit almost any document:
- Transparencies and/or photographs to digital files
- PowerPoint images to transparencies and/or 2x2 slides
- 2x2 slides to digital files (jpegs)
- Hardcopy (paper documents) to editable Word documents or PDFs
- Windows to Mac format
- Macintosh to Windows format
- Cassette tape and vinyl records to digital files
- VHS tape to digital files
Audio/Video Creation and File Management
- Burn and copy CDs
- Transfer files from floppies and zip disks to CD
- Upload files to Unix accounts
- Create audio and video files for use on the web
