Foltz: .I've found that doing distance classes tends to be a bit of a black hole for time. That a lot of people that have not done it don't quite understand, but if you're going to make it interactive, and that's one thing I like about a threaded discussion, is that it allows you to bring this outside expert in without them having to leave their place of business. It can be in Chicago , it can be in New York City , it can be in Hong Kong for that matter, if they've got internet access. And it allows you to bring them into the classroom and bring real life into the classroom without having to pay for an airplane ticket and a chunk of their time to come visit you. But it's also time consuming on the part of the educator, on the part of the professor, because you've got to set it up beforehand, you've got to monitor it as it goes along. I had a TA, that part of their responsibility was each week just to check off, did the students do it or not? So, they were checking "yes" or "no" and I was kind of monitoring the quality and making the responses to the students.
