Initial Group Activity

Branen: …and then I also have one in the very beginning that is just to give them practice. It's not graded and I don't really do anything with it, but it's to make sure they know how to do a posting and that the system is working for them because we've run into some problems, whether because of a firewall they have on their computer or something else they can't get it to work. So, if they do a posting before there are points for it, it takes the pressure off and they're not as worried about, “Oh my gosh, now I'm going to lose those points.” And, if they get frustrated too early in the course, they're not going to continue the course.
