Pipeline to Local Office
The Institute will hold “Pipeline to Local Office,” a two-evening campaign training program, on Tuesday, Jan. 22 and Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. The workshop is designed for women interested in running for municipal offices as well as those interested in volunteering on a campaign.
Participants in the Pipeline to Local Office Program Will:
- Refine a Campaign Plan and Budget
- Learn How to Target Their Likely Voters
- Learn How to Fundraise Successfully
- Plan Strategies for Getting Voters to the Polls
- Develop Skills for Successful Public Speaking
More than 50 percent of past participants have gone on to win seats as mayors, city council and school board members. Recent successful candidates in past year’s classes include St. Charles City Councilwoman Mary Ann Ohms, Kirkwood City Councilwoman Gina Jaksetic, Greendale Mayor Monica Huddleston and Normandy Schoolboard Members Joyce McRath and Pepper Clifton.
Workshop faculty includes women who have held local office or have worked on successful local campaigns. They will provide specific instruction on how to develop a campaign plan and budget for a local race, target likely voters, raise money and get voters to the polls. Participants also will learn communication skills and practice public speaking.

Where: University of Missouri- St. Louis, 202 JC Penney Conference Center
Program Cost: $70 ($85 after Jan. 17, 2013).
