All of the Fraternity & Sorority Life programs and events are centered around these pillars. At UMSL we have several ways for you to make the most out of your experience.
New Member Institute
The New Member Institute was started to create a sense of solidarity among UMSL's fraternities and sororities. Members take part in break out sessions, team building exercises, and leadership-based discussions. The entire day is geared toward introducing new members to the policies, procedures, and expectations of a fraternity man and sorority woman, allowing them to realize their potential to be a leader.
Fraternity & Sorority Life Leaders Retreat
Each January, the leaders of the fraternity and sorority community have a chance to come together to learn about each other, the organizations they belong to, and plan for the future of the UMSL fraternity and sorority Community. During this retreat the leaders tackle big and small and learn about being a leader within the community.
Order of Omega
Order of Omega is an honor society for membrs of social fraternities and sororities. The purpose is to recognizse those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-fraternal activities. Membership is limited to the top 3% of the fraternity and sorority population. Order of Omega is responsible for the end of the year awards and banquet as well as the Leader of the Month award which recognizes a different fratenrity or sorority leader each month.
Greek Week is an annual series ofevents for the UMSL fraternities and sororities to showcase their pride and unity. Throughout the week the chapters compete in sporting events, trivia, window painting, community service, and philanthropy to see who will be crowned Greek Week Champion. This year the chapter collected over 2,000 pieces of food and 943 shoes to be donated to local charities and churches.
As older members are gearing up for graduation, Fraternity & Sorority Life works to connect them with alumni from around the area. This event offers networking opportunities and a hands-on way to connect their membership in a fraternity or sorority to life after college. During the event, members have a chance to learn from alumni how to sell their experience to employers, how to utilize skills gained through memberhsip, and how to adjust to life after college.
