Course Description
This course will explore storytelling in terms of definition, selection of appropriate materials, methods of preparation, and techniques of presentation. Traditional rendering of stories, as well as more innovative approaches using art, music, and movement, will be demonstrated. Developing storytelling units based on a theme or historical figure also will be discussed. Participants in this course will have many opportunities to learn stories and polish them for telling. Emphasis is placed on personal experience and how it fits into existing curriculum.
Instructors: Lynn Rubright is professor emeritus at Webster University, an adjunct faculty member at University of Missouri-St. Louis, professional storyteller, author, and educational consultant. In addition, professional storytellers Sue Hinkel, Annette Harrison, and Perrin Stifel will make presentations during the workshop, demonstrating their techniques and sharing some of their stories with class members.
