Medical Examinations
If a medical examination is necessary, we can assist you in making an appointment for an examination with a physician specially trained in the detection and treatment of child abuse. The pediatrician will do an evaluation of the child to include a history and complete physical examination.
Medical examinations occur in a supportive atmosphere, and are similar to the check-ups the child receives from their family doctor. This process can be reassuring, because often families learn that the child is fine and that there is no permanent damage. A copy of the physician’s assessment is forwarded to each investigator (DSS and law enforcement) and to the child’s primary care physician.
