Individual Counseling

ChildChildren’s Advocacy Services provides comprehensive treatment services for victims of childhood trauma and their non-offending caregivers. Treatment modalities include individual and family psychotherapy for children and caregivers across a variety of methods (e.g. play therapy, cognitive behavioral, family systems). Services are provided by licensed clinical professionals and advanced graduate students under the direct supervision of licensed clinical staff.

As an alumni member of the National Childhood Traumatic Stress Network, Children’s Advocacy Services staff are trained providers of empirically validated “Best Practice” treatments for trauma including:

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is a structured short-term treatment approach aimed at reducing the symptoms of trauma through psychoeducation and skill building for stress inoculation, cognitive restructuring and emotion regulation. Therapists work with children ages 3-18 and their caregivers to help child recover from trauma.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is a structured treatment approach aimed at helping children, ages 2-12 and their caregivers recover from trauma by improving their relationships and bonds. Therapists coach parents in basic parenting skills (e.g. attunement, positive discipline, effective commands) that attempt to improve the child’s chances of being cooperative and productive.

Integrated Treatment for Complex Trauma (ITCT)
ITCT (Integrative Therapy for Complex Trauma) is a skill-based, structured intensive treatment protocol for children and adolescents who have a history of exposure to chronic trauma, which has resulted in serious emotional and behavioral difficulties. ITCT is a very flexible intervention designed to address specific needs through assessment and intervention in multi-modal formats (individual, group, family) and by promoting support and resiliency through the child’s existing social networks. ITCT is an evidence-based practice that addresses both attachment and trauma related symptoms by improving skills in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, impulse control, stress management, self-esteem and social skills. Exploration of the child’s trauma history is conducted in a developmentally appropriate manner, only proceeding at a pace that is comfortable and safe for the child. Age ranges are from 6-18 years old.
