PRIDE in Parenting: Using Parent Child Interaction Therapy to Prevent Abuse

Current research indicates that the absence of a strong, positive parent-child interaction can increase the risk of physical abuse within the family. Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an innovative, evidence-based practice addressing both the parent-child relationship and teaching positive parenting skills. The presenters will share an overview of PCIT and will explain how this cutting edge intervention can reduce the risk of child maltreatment.

Behavior problems at home and school is a common consequence of childhood traumatic stress. Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an innovative, evidence-based practice addressing both the parent-child relationship and teaching positive parenting skills geared towards improving the child’s stability, self-esteem, and decreasing behavior problems. The presenters will share an overview of PCIT and will explain how this cutting edge intervention can reduce disruptive behaviors both at home and school.

Children with Sexual Behavior Problems: Conceptualization and Treatment

Often there is confusion about when a child’s sexual behavior is problematic and how we need to respond. This workshop addresses the complex issue of children with sexual behavior problems and recommendations for working with such children.

Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding to Child Maltreatment

Presenter: Any of the clinicians or forensic staff at CASGSL could do this presentation

Attendees will gain an understanding of signs of child maltreatment, how to respond to a child who has disclosed abuse, and what their obligation is as mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect.

Compassion Fatigue

This workshop examines individual and organizational aspects of the problem, as well as strategies necessary to keep professionals healthy despite exposure to trauma and working in stressful conditions.

Evidence Based Practices in Child Maltreatment

This workshop will include a basic introduction of how to evaluate treatment approaches, knowledgeable questions to be asked, and an overview of several effective practices for various child abuse categories.

An Overview: Attendees of this workshop will gain a basic understanding of trauma. What it is, its prevalence, symptoms, and treatments will be discussed.

Complex Trauma

Presenter: Matt Kliethermes, Ph. D.

This workshop can be an addition to Trauma 101. Attendees will understand differences between acute and complex trauma, treatment approaches, and how complex trauma can impact an investigation.
