Volunteer of the Month
May 2012

Ashley Siverling
"I would like to nominate Ashley Siverling, a student in the Vocational Skills Program, who volunteers on the UMSL campus. Ashley has volunteered this year at the UMSL Bookstore, the MSC and with Sodexo. Ashley is a very dedicated worker who is always looking for ways she can take initiative, as she is so quick and efficient her tasks are always finished, and she wants to find ways she can do more. Ashley is the ultimate team player, an excellent communicator and everyday comes to volunteer with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. All of Ashley's supervisors have given her superior evaluations and have found her an invaluable member of their team."

George Shaw
"I nominate George Shaw for Volunteer of the Month as a way to show him that the School of Social Work appreciates his good work and the fine example he sets in the community as an UMSL volunteer. George comes in every week ready to work. He learned basic Excel functions to increase his skill set and be as useful as possible to the MSW and Field Education office. He has a strong work ethic, is always on time and always polite and friendly. He calls in to see if we have something for him to do, and lets us know his availability. He is a hard worker, always interested in learning something new, and completes the various tasks given to him quickly and quietly. This young man is an example of someone who helps himself by helping others.
George has a remarkable attention to detail that enables him to perform his tasks virtually without error, so he is often called upon to prepare mailing labels, event name tags, often as many as 100 at a time, and also helps out with filing and data entry for some of our tracking spreadsheets. He helps set up for events, makes copies, runs errands etc., but most importantly, George has a way of making people smile."

Albert Nall
"Albert is an absolute joy to have as a volunteer. He is so diligent that I have to tell him when the day is over and to stop working! Albert is such an integral part of our order process in the office. In fact, the orders could not be completed nor be filled if Albert was not here doing his part. We are dependent upon his commitment and it is so very much appreciated.
Not only is he a hard worker, but he has such a pleasant attitude, and is so willing to do whatever we ask of him; we just enjoy having him work with us in this office. Thank you, Albert, for being a valuable part of our team! "

Ana Abendschein
"I am happy to nominate Ana for February’s volunteer of the month. I have had the honor of observing Ana and she is very hardworking, sincere and dedicated towards any task given to her. It is possible for small tasks to slip through your hands because of the fast pace of our office but Ana never lets the small task syndrome get in the way of excellent service. Regardless what size job it is, she takes each challenge as her own responsibility and follows through until it is resolved. Ana truly deserves to be appreciated for her sincere efforts."

Larry Hasenfratz
"Larry has been a volunteer with the UMSL Executive Leadership Consortium for about 2 years. He is very helpful and dedicated. He cohosts a radio show on The U called The World View, and continues to contribute to its quality programming. This is also a great service to the University. He also performs other office activities and additionally takes photos at some of the ELC programs.
Furthermore he has a great attitude and is a team player."
Malaika Horne - Director, UMSL Executive Leadership Consortium
