Volunteer of the Month
"Sunitha has been a tremendous asset to our office. She has assisted with maintenance of our academic files and the archival of documents by creating an extensive record-keeping system. She has helped with departmental events, and expressed enthusiasm about our office mission. We have found Sunitha to be very conscientious, professional, and sensitive to others. She is attentive to office procedures and welcomes the opportunity to learn more about topics related to diversity.”
Kathy Falcon—Administrative Assistant, Office of Equal Opportunity & Diversity
“Erin has successfully demonstrated leadership ability by effectively listening and counseling the players. Her advice has been a great help to the team, as many players have taken time to share their comments with me regarding her pleasant and encouraging attitude. She continually demonstrates great perseverance and initiative by her ability to balance her academic, social, and volunteer activities. Erin has been a blessing to the softball program."
Brian Levin - Head Softball Coach, Athletics
"Susan is always willing to help out in any capacity. She is very friendly, outgoing and easy to work with. She has helped us with transcripts, putting on special events and even has been willing to stuff folders and do other busy work the office needed."
Krystal Lange - Assistant Director, Admissions
"Alex came to the School of Social Work in early summer to help us update the records in our Field Education Collaborative database. His first task was to update our mailing list of several hundred human service organizations in the St. Louis area. Then he moved on to record reconciliation, organizing the data into spreadsheets and devising ways to verify the information before entering the data into the database. He has a strong grasp of computer processes and is comfortable moving between functions. He is a quick learner, and was able to assume responsibility for each phase with minimal explanation. The work was complex and tedious, but Alex consistently worked through each phase of the project with notable accuracy and attention to detail. We were all impressed with Alex. He set a schedule and reported to work on time. He conducted himself in a pleasant, professional manner, and accomplished a tremendous amount of work in a short period of time. Thanks to Alex our database is in better shape than ever."
Cindy Gemignani - Administrative Assistant, School of Social Work
“Adriana volunteered in the Office of Alumni and Community Relations during the months of June and July. Adriana is a student at Hazelwood Central. From day one she was a joy to work with. With her can-do attitude, and infectious smile she was a welcome addition to the department. Adriana was dependable, completed all tasks swiftly and efficiently which included answering phones, greeting office visitors, assisting in preparing for department and alumni chapter meetings, prospect research, preparing binders that included guidelines for administrative office tasks, and helping to process Alumni memberships. Adriana’s confidence, maturity and professional demeanor made us sometimes forget she had not yet graduated high school. We look forward to having her work in our office in the future.”
Deborah Graham - Director, Alumni and Community Relations
Mary Ann Coulter
"Mary Ann has been volunteering for UMSL for many years, and over that time has been a valuable resource to the Library. She does anything that is needed in the library, including shelving books, reference research, data entry and assisting with the processing of archival collections. She has the best interests of the Library at heart, and has been an invaluable asset to our outreach efforts in the river community for the Mercantile Library as well. Mary Ann is prompt and kind and an enjoyable personality to be around. I hope she is able to serve the library for many more years!"
Sean Visintainer - Librarian, Mercantile Library
"Meredith began working as the Volunteer Jubilee Programming Assistant in mid-April to help the Jubilee Programming Committee as it developed and implemented a process for accepting Jubilee project proposals and financial award requests. With an energetic and enthusiastic personality, Meredith jumped right in to the project and helped to develop a useful structure to assist the committee in reviewing and making program decisions. A good listener and learner, she quickly understood the needs of the project and has made sure that the committee has complete and concise information and tools to simplify their work. We feel very fortunate that Meredith has been working with us on the Jubilee Programming Committee, and appreciate her good thinking, flexibility and positive demeanor. The committee is indebted to Meredith for the time she has committed to the Jubilee project."
Patricia Zahn - Chair, Jubilee Programming Committee
"I would like to nominate Ashley Siverling, a student in the Vocational Skills Program, who volunteers on the UMSL campus. Ashley has volunteered this year at the UMSL Bookstore, the MSC and with Sodexo. Ashley is a very dedicated worker who is always looking for ways she can take initiative, as she is so quick and efficient her tasks are always finished, and she wants to find ways she can do more. Ashley is the ultimate team player, an excellent communicator and everyday comes to volunteer with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. All of Ashley's supervisors have given her superior evaluations and have found her an invaluable member of their team."
Diane Thames - Teacher, Transition Services
"I nominate George Shaw for Volunteer of the Month as a way to show him that the School of Social Work appreciates his good work and the fine example he sets in the community as an UMSL volunteer. George comes in every week ready to work. He learned basic Excel functions to increase his skill set and be as useful as possible to the MSW and Field Education office. He has a strong work ethic, is always on time and always polite and friendly. He calls in to see if we have something for him to do, and lets us know his availability. He is a hard worker, always interested in learning something new, and completes the various tasks given to him quickly and quietly. This young man is an example of someone who helps himself by helping others.
George has a remarkable attention to detail that enables him to perform his tasks virtually without error, so he is often called upon to prepare mailing labels, event name tags, often as many as 100 at a time, and also helps out with filing and data entry for some of our tracking spreadsheets. He helps set up for events, makes copies, runs errands etc., but most importantly, George has a way of making people smile."
Cindy Gemignani - Administrative Assistant, Office of Social Work
"Albert is an absolute joy to have as a volunteer. He is so diligent that I have to tell him when the day is over and to stop working! Albert is such an integral part of our order process in the office. In fact, the orders could not be completed nor be filled if Albert was not here doing his part. We are dependent upon his commitment and it is so very much appreciated.
Not only is he a hard worker, but he has such a pleasant attitude, and is so willing to do whatever we ask of him; we just enjoy having him work with us in this office. Thank you, Albert, for being a valuable part of our team! "
Sandra Hammerly - Director, Sigma Beta Delta
"I am happy to nominate Ana for February's volunteer of the month. I have had the honor of observing Ana and she is very hardworking, sincere and dedicated towards any task given to her. It is possible for small tasks to slip through your hands because of the fast pace of our office but Ana never lets the "small task" syndrome get in the way of excellent service. Regardless what size job it is, she takes each challenge as her own responsibility and follows through until it is resolved. Ana truly deserves to be appreciated for her sincere efforts."
Sandy Ray - Athletics, Administrative Assistant
"Larry has been a volunteer with the UMSL Executive Leadership Consortium for about 2 years. He is very helpful and dedicated. He cohosts a radio show on The U, called the World View and continues to contribute to its quality programming. This is also a great service to the University. He also performs other office activities and additionally takes photos at some of the ELC programs. He has a great attitude and is a team player."
Malaika Horne - Director, UMSL Executive Leadership Consortium
