DETAILS
"Point-of-View: Simmons/Marshall Mega Magnet Elementary School" is the latest exhibit in the Public Policy Research Center Photography Project at UMSL. The series features photos taken by people who live and work in urban areas. In this case, the photos were taken by a small group of fourth and fifth grade students selected from the Neighborhood Houses After School Program.
The photography project participants took self portraits. They also photographed their hands, legs and feet; and wrote accompanying poems that describe themselves. Mel Watkin, director of the PPRC Photography Project at UMSL, was impressed by how much the students immersed themselves in their work.
"The energy level and interest of these Simmons/Marshall students proved to me, once again, how photography can channel children's natural curiosity and liveliness into creative works of art," she said.
An opening reception will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 11 at Simmons/Marshall Mega Magnet Elementary School.
