DETAILS
Kurt Raaflaub will discuss war in ancient civilizations. He will examine what role war played in Greece and how peace was restored once war broke out.

Raaflaub is an expert on archaic and classical Greek and Roman Republican political, social and intellectual history, war and society. His recent books include "The Discovery of Freedom in Ancient Greece" and "War and Society in the Ancient World."

The lecture is the 2008 Catharine Pelican Annual Memorial Lecture in Greek Studies at UMSL.
